Chicago LAMP currently partners with Crown Fine Arts Academy and Gregory Elementary School in North Lawndale to operate a drop-out prevention program for middle school boys and girls. The program has four main goals:
- To provide positive and culturally aware adult mentors for a minimum of one year, three hours per week
- To tutor in the areas of reading and math
- To train youth in restorative justice practices that build conflict resolution skills
- To help cultivate strong parental support and involvement
The program supports 25 youth between the ages of 10 and 14, providing each student with one-to-one mentoring and other support services. Our goal is to empower students in the drop-out prevention program to develop cooperative relationships, manage their emotions responsibly and resolve disputes using non-violent means. We believe that arming students with these tools well help them remain in school and achieve their academic goals.
